“Fish and Berries” Nuu-chah-nulth Language Nest Demo

Take half an hour to feel what it is like to be immersed in the language of this land, the language of our host community of Tla-o-qui-aht. Join us for a demonstration of a Language Nest, an immersion space where fluent speakers create the environment for children and learners to “absorb” the sounds of our language as opposed to “learning” the sounds. Many involved in language revitalization believe that the Language Nest provides the most benefit when the whole family can participate, thereby creating opportunity for the family to continue with language practice and reinforcement in the home.

The (casual) focus for this Language Nest will be Traditional Foods. Learner’s from all levels are encouraged to come participate by “absorbing” the flow of language or by practicing words or phrases in a safe and positive space. Participants are also invited to bring traditional foods to share if they feel inspired to. All ages welcome!  – Hosted by the Language Keepers Society.

This event is by donation. All proceeds will support the Language Keepers Society and their revitalization efforts. Language Keepers Society is made up of group of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations members who’s goal is to promote and work towards the revitalization of our language and all aspects of culture and community health.
