The Royal BC Museum Session – Sunday, September 10th, 2017

September 10, 2017 @ 11:00 AM - 11:40 AM

The Royal BC Museum is organizing an online exhibition based on the museum’s collection of monumental carvings and model totem poles. We will speak about Huu-ay-aht Welcome Figures and Ucluelet House Posts, their relationship to the Maa-nulth Treaty, and their home nations. As our project is in its early stages this presentation will be an excellent opportunity to create conversation about what makes a website valuable for communities outside Victoria.

India Young is the project manager for the online exhibition of totem poles and model poles at the Royal BC Museum. Beyond the museum she works as a curator and educator in Victoria. Leslie McGerry, the research and writer for this project, has worked with the museum over the years, most notably with Thunderbird Park. Also present for conversations will be Dave Stewart, the museum’s digital manager, and Lucy Bell, the new Head of First Nations and Repatriation.
