We are looking for a Gallery Coordinator for the carving exhibition that is hosted each year as a part of the Carving on the Edge Festival. We have a dynamic team that gathers each year to host this unique and important celebration of contemporary and traditional carving arts on the west coast. Ideally you are interested in developing the arts sector, you value creating spaces that are welcoming to diverse cultures, and you plan on staying in the area long term. The Edge Art Show welcomes a wide variety of local carving artists from emerging to master carvers and we are looking for the right person to honour this vital community offering.

You will need access to your own computer and workspace. You will work independently and be available to meet bi-weekly with more frequency, as needed, leading up to the festival. You must be available for the dates of the Carving Festival (this includes set up and take down) Wednesday Sept 6 – Sept 13th, $16-25/hour depending on previous experience.

Duties
– Develop an annual theme for this year’s exhibition with input from the festival team
– Outreach to previous participating artists and to new artists
– Create related marketing material, collaborating on the festival marketing plan
– Coordinate the drop offs and pick-ups for contributing artists
– Curate the hanging of the art show
– Create schedule and manage volunteer gallery floor staff
– Manage the inventory and point of sale systems
– Relationship building with participating artists and buyers

Qualifications
– Outgoing, motivated and professional
– Possess good communication skills
– Confidant working independently and as a team
– Sales experience, arts or culture based an asset
– Experience working as or with professional artists
– Cultural sensitivity and previous experience working with First Nations and other diverse communities
