We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator for 2017 Carving on the Edge Festival. We have a dynamic team that gathers each year to host this unique and important celebration of contemporary and traditional carving arts on the west coast. Ideally you are interested in developing the arts sector, you value creating spaces that are welcoming to diverse cultures, and you plan on staying in the area long term. We have a wonderful and devout group of supporters that volunteer their time each year to ensure the success of the festival. We are ready to invest in the development of a volunteer program to properly manage, train, support and recognize our incredible volunteers.

You will need access to your own computer and workspace. You will work independently and be available to meet bi-weekly with more frequency, as needed, leading up to the festival. You must be available for the dates of the Carving Festival (this includes set up and take down) Wednesday Sept 6 – Sept 13th, $16-25/hour depending on previous experience

Duties
– Develop a volunteer program for the festival, including recruitment, training, support and recognition.
– Communicate with festival staff team to assess needs
– Outreach to previous volunteers
– Design and implementation of a volunteer recruitment strategy
– Effectively schedule volunteers for all aspects of the process
– Coordination of volunteer recognition event
– Ensure follow up and evaluation of the volunteer program
Qualifications
– Experience working with volunteers
– Possess good communication skills
– Be aware of all the components of a good volunteer program (or are keen to learn)
– Able to efficiently assess, direct, and lead volunteers
– Outgoing, motivated and professional
– Confidant working independently and as a team
– Cultural sensitivity and previous experience working with First Nations and other diverse communities
