Part of the mission of the Carving on the Edge Festival is to support growth in the carving community. Every year, the festival has hosted workshops and technique sessions, such as knife making, bowl carving and printmaking. With the 2021 Festival in a digital format, we knew we had to find a way to bring that workshop aspect to the festival. Robinson Cook suggested an introduction to wood carving workshop, where he could bring his wealth of knowledge to a workshop that would introduce wood type and tools and demonstrate tool technique.

The workshop is included here in its entirety. Conveniently laid out in five parts, the segments can be watched and rewatched at your convenience.

Types of Wood
Overview of Tools
Tool Safety & Techniques
Carving Demonstration
Tool Care & Sharpening
