About this event

Students will learn the basics of how to paint on wood to enhance their wooden carvings. Each student will receive a small wooden paddle to paint on. Topics cover mixing of paint for proper consistency, brush types and care, and painting fine lines. Students will be provided with all the supplies needed for this workshop.

Robin Rorick

Robin Rorick is Haida from the Yahgulaanas Raven clan. His work  ranges from large scale cedar carving,  limited edition prints, drums, painting spruce root weavings and ceremonial items. In 2017 Robin received  the Reveal Indigenous Art Award  from the Hnatyshyn Foundation.  He currently has work displayed in the exhibition,  “Ancestral Connections” at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York.  Robin also has work on display in “Haida Now” at the Museum of Vancouver.

Robin is the father of two children and is married to Hesquiaht language activist chuutsqa Rorick. He learned from Joe Martin to carve a chuputs in 2012, and has been working with Joe on his latest totem poles, Hinaaqsuuqwa and Naa’waya’sum.
