This year’s festival focused on the rich and archetypal art traditions of the west coast carver.
Chuuchkamalthnii (Ron Hamilton) presented his 2010 award-winning film, “Histakshitl Ts’awaatskwii” (We Come from One Root), about the ceremonial curtains of the Nuu-chah-nulth potlatch. Joe David discussed early collections of Nuu-chah-nulth artifacts as well as contemporary works in his presentation, “Origins”. Carl Martin taught an advanced carving workshop on the Nuu-chah-nulth paddle.
Workshops throughout the week taught skills such as cedar weaving, tool making, traditional designs, canoe making, along with Carving Play sessions for kids and families.
