2025 Carving on the Edge Festival

‘ʔiič ̓ ay̓apniš t̓aatn̓a, kʷakuuc, ƛaaƛaayacqum’

Talking together, inspiring each other

A coming together for young people to create with elders, master carvers and knowledge keepers.

Artists, youth and the public gathered to participate in a community carving of a 5-foot traditional Nuu-
Chah-Nulth log drum, led by artist Hjalmer Wenstob. The completed drum will be presented to the Tla-
o-qui-aht First Nation in the fall of 2025. Carving workshops, demos, commissioned art works and discussion panels by featured guest carvers and artists rounded out the festival.

Curated and hosted by Nuu-chah-nulth creative committee members:

Hjalmer Wenstob
Tim Masso
Joshua Watts
Valeen Jules
with festival coordinator Mishele Gagne
